Scouts, aged 10.5 - 14, meet every Friday as a Troop, under the supervision of the Scout Leader and other leaders. Each Scout is a member of a Patrol, with a Patrol leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. A Patrol consists of four to six Scouts and in the 5th Sutton are named after birds of prey, eg The Eagles Patrol. The Patrol leaders have the responsibility of their own Patrol and are encouraged to assist in the day to day running of the Troop.
What do Scouts Do?
The Scouts training program enables the Scout to enjoy the many and varied activities laid down in the Program Zones and the preferred Balanced Program For all the scouts there are a choice of eight Challenges, Outdoor, Expedition, Fitness, Outdoor Plus, Community, Global, Adventure and Creative. There are 70 activity badges covering topics as diverse as Art through to Zoology to be gained.
Participation is again the emphasis for a Scout and that should enable them to build on the Staged Activity badges gained in Cubs, join with other sections to achieve Group Awards such as Environment, Faith and International Friendship and to obtain the section’s highest achievement, the Chief Scout’s Gold Award which is awarded when a Scout successfully completes four challenges and a personal challenge.
