The fundamentals of Scouting are that it is a world wide, value based, educational movement. The Movement believe that the world is a better place when people are trustworthy, self-controlled and self confident, have self respect and respect for others, work together to serve other people and to improve society, show responsibility towards the natural world, have respect for possessions and property, have an active religious faith.
All of us in Scouting, from the youngest Beaver through to the Chief Scout, follow three principles:
Duty to Self, Duty to Others, Duty to God
We believe that Scouting works well when young people enjoy learning by doing in partnership with adults. They do this by taking part in a variety of activities and new experiences, exploring the outdoors, participating in teams and taking responsibility.
What is a Scout Group?
The uniformed side of Scout Group normally consists of a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack, Scout Troop and often an Explorer Scout Unit. This enables a Scout Group to provide Scouting for boys, and where possible girls, from the age of 6 to 25 and beyond. Having the Scout Group formed in this way promotes good relations across all ages.
The non-uniformed side consists of parents, guardians, friends and supporters. A Scout Group is like a family with events run for the whole group. These can vary from open evenings, walks, fun days to Family Camps and outings.
What does Scouting Cost?
Every invested member pays a subscription, currently £90.00p.a., made up of two elements.
1. A fixed sum that the Group has to pay to the Scout Association for each uniformed member.
2. An amount charged by the 5th Sutton to contribute towards the basic running costs of the Group.
All leaders have to attend courses and undergo training in order to retain their Scouter Warrants issued by the Scout Association. All leaders are CRB checked.
